Klaas en Jacob Vet founded an earthenware factory in 1903 in Purmerend: Firma Jb. Vet & Co. Klaas became the artistic leader and also designed the earthenware models, Jacob became the business leader. The factory burnt down in 1906. A year later they moved to Arnhem to start a new factory. The new factory, called ‘Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek’, did very well. Soon they were selling earthenware abroad, like in England, France, Scandinavia, America and Australia, up to WW I. After the end of that war in 1918, things picked up again, the turnover grew fast, allowing the factory to expand. Jacob was found dead in in the Thames in London in 1924.
Soon conflict arose between Klaas Vet and the new business leader of the Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek, Ir. Henri van Hoorn. Klaas was ultimately fired and in 1926 started a new factory with N. Koerse and J. Vach in Arnhem: de N.V. Plateelfabriek Gelria. The economic crisis forced the Plateelfabriek Gelria to stop production in 1932.
